banksy opens his own hotel

The new provocation from the street artist Banksy is called “Walled Off Hotel”, the hotel “off the wall” that the mysterious artist wanted to open in Bethlehem, just four meters from the barrier erected by the Israelis as a dividing line from the Palestinian territories.

These days the hotel welcomed its first guests who can sleep or have a drink surrounded by the works of Banksy. The hotel has nine rooms which cost, per night, ranging from $ 30 for a bunk bed to 965 for the suite. However, guests are required to pay a deposit of one thousand dollars, bail designed specifically to deter potential thieves from stealing one of the dozens of Banksy’s new works. The figure, however, has not deterred tourists: the hotel is already sold out for the next three months.

In addition, the hotel has “the worst view of any hotel in the world,” said Banksy to describe it. 🙂

The artist has managed to keep hidden until last minute the hotel’s construction, yet another project designed to turn the spotlight on the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians, a subject to which Banksy is very sensitive.

Among the first guests was a British and an Australian.

The Walled Off Hotel, already nicknamed “the place with the worst view of the world”, will host some piano-voice concert made, however, in an unorthodox way. As staged at the inaugural concert by Elton John, the piano in the hotel lobby will be programmed to play along with a live video specifically made by the artists who will entertain virtually the patrons .

The guest list is already announced and it sounds great: in fact, after Elton John, the next ones to play at the Banksy hotel  will be Nine Inch Nails and, of course, Massive Attack’s Robert ‘3D ‘Del Naja.

It is not the first time that Del Naja and Banksy work together for a project designed by the street artist; both of them are from Bristol, in the past, Del Naja was supposed to bring Massive Attack to play in Dismaland, the theme park designed by Banksy, but the project did not succeed. Moreover, they have never quite stilled the voices who see the Massive Attack leader as the true identity of the most enigmatic artist of the contemporary scene.
