Harry Styles or the art of creating panic in Milan for hundreds of teenagers….
A battlefield over hundreds of meters, a perimeter blocked by the police, upset teenagers in tears … given the situation of the recent years with terrorism in Europe, one would have thought that something serious had happened downtown of Milan at the concert hall “Alcatraz”, and it would not be the first time unfortunately … but it is not ! No, to my surprise, there’s just the concert of former One Direction member Harry Styles.
The scene is unreal, a good half of the boulevard has been blocked by huge security means, with zero chance to walk and pass by near the entrance of the Alcatraz. Arriving at the scene, I walk on kilos and kilos of garbage, food, games, sleeping bags and blankets of all kinds, and I wonder how simple teenagers were able to turn this boulevard into a real open air dump. Then I remember my teenage years and I understand !! 😊
Finally, I arrive at the height of the first barriers and security checks to be able to get into the area and attend the concert. A hundred people walk helplessly around the perimeter looking for tickets, a kind of Holy Grail of the evening, the concert already being sold out since several months. The more we come close to the time of the concert and the more I see scenes of hysteria, of young girls in tears, desperate to be unable to see their idol.
These scenes immediately made me think of the images of the Beatles and their fans in the 60’s…
I think of my teenage years, a long time ago, and I do not remember such moments of suffering for a singer or a band, but these scenes immediately made me think of the images of the Beatles and their fans in the 60’s. A kind of euphoric suffering proper to the female sex in this kind of situation. If these scenes amuse very much the parents who gave a ride to their children and who patiently wait outside the venue, the teenager’s weeps, tears and the One Direction hits sung at the top of their lungs, put the security members seriously to the test!
The security, which I must say is impeccable, letting in only people in possession of a ticket or a press pass , and kindly rejecting the many attempts of fans to get in.
In these times of stress and terrorism, the many security points are reassuring. In short, i just wanted to tell you my mini experience at the concert of Harry Styles even though i could not get into the venue. Too bad, because his first solo album is one of the best albums of the year to me, and shows a maturity that I did not expect from a former member of One Direction. A rock album, fresh and sensitive, with a sub-taste of brit pop rock and classic rock sounds from the 70’s.
A breath of fresh air in a musical world made of big productions and tailor made sounds. I may have one more opportunity to see him in April at the Assago forum. Leave me your comments and share your experience of any Harry Styles concert wherever you are !!
