Bruno Mars and Anderson.Paak announce a new Album as Silk Sonic.
What an exciting news! In an exclusive new joint project, longtime friends duo has made a whole surprise album together. The first single called “Leave the Door Open”, came out on March 5 and has oldie funk and soul accents. It already feels like summer… in a song.
The rest of the record entitled “An evening with Silk Sonic” does not have an announced date.
Bruno Mars and Anderson.Paak toured together in 2017, and the same year, they reportedly worked on material at Abbey Road with Disclosure and Nile Rodgers. Coincidence? Maybe not… Nile Rodgers is one of the funk master nowadays so it fits the feeling of the first single.
Mars, one of the biggest musicians in the world, is a former Album of the Year winner at the Grammys and Super Bowl Halftime Show performer. Paak first broke through with his 2016 album Malibu, which he worked on with the help of production by Dr. Dre, and quickly became one of the biggest crossover stars in the world of hip-hop. He was also nominated for a Grammy award with this amazing album (one of my personal faves).
So how did that little miracle happen? On February 26, Mars and Paak revealed that they had joined forces to create a new band, Silk Sonic. “We locked in and made an album. The band’s called Silk Sonic,” Mars captioned his Instagram. Paak shared the same message. “WE MADE AN ALBUM!! YALL GET THE FIRST SONG NEXT FRIDAY 3/5!! ROCKET EMOJIS AND ALL THAT!!!”
Since then, the song reached number two spot in the Hot 100 Billboard and Silk Sonic performed the song live for the first time at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, adopting a 70s aesthetic and starry background, and accompanied only by a couple of backup singers. The performance had great buzz before and after. Indeed, the funky friends promoted the project on their respective social media accounts as real marketing geniuses, faking feuds, talking to each other or getting in touch with the Grammy organization to ask for a spot to perform the single.
We don’t know when An Evening With Silk Sonic will drop just yet, but it will provide some major good vibes for a year that, frankly, deserves it very much.
Actress Halle Berry tweeted “Ima leave the door ooopen!” with a GIF in which she looked pretty hot.
Famed singer and theater legend Lea Salonga also loved it. “Silk Sonic just killed me,” she tweeted. “Oh my God.”
The pair’s performance was very much a throwback to more soulful and funky times and it was just wicked.
